UMH stands out in social sciences, psychology, physical sciences, and engineering & technology according to the British THE World University Rankings

The Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) is among the top 10 Spanish universities in the subjects of life sciences, health sciences, psychology, physical sciences, and engineering & technology according to the British Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019, which classifies the world’s best universities. This study analyzes the main parameters in teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook in each of these subjects. 

Specifically, the UMH is found between positions 401-500 in the Life Sciences classification. This subject examines universities that lead in agriculture & forestry, biological sciences, veterinary science, and sport science. Within Spain, the UMH sits in this ranking in the fifth position, along with other universities such as the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and University of Salamanca (USAL). Within the autonomous Valencian Community, it is bested only by the University of Valencia (UV).

The UMH also sits between positions 401-500 among world universities in the Clinical, Pre-Clinical and Health subject. This ranking highlights universities that are leading in the areas of medicine and other health subjects. On a Spanish national level, the UMH is in the eighth position, along with other universities such as that of Granada (UGR); among Valencian Community institutions, the UMH is second overall, behind the University of Valencia (UV).

As for the ranking on the subject of Psychology, the UMH lies 400th in the worldwide calculation. Within Spain, in this subject the UMH is in the sixth position, along with other universities, including the Universitat Jaume I (UJI); autonomously, the UMH is second again, behind the University of Valencia (UV). This ranking considers the subjects of educational, sport, business, and animal psychology, as well as the clinical variety.

Finally, the UMH also stands out, along with various other Spanish universities, in sixth position in the Physical Sciences ranking, and it is in the seventh position in Engineering & Technology. The former of these rankings classifies universities that lead in mathematics & statistics, physics & astronomy, chemistry and environmental sciences. The latter highlights those that lead in electrical, mechanical, civil, chemical, and general engineering subjects.

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019 by Subject is the only global performance table that evaluates research-intensive universities in all their core missions. To accomplish this, it utilizes 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide comprehensive and balanced comparisons.
