UMH among the best Spanish universities according to the latest U-Ranking by the BBVA Foundation and IVIE

The sixth edition of the U-Ranking of Spanish Universities by the BBVA Foundation and Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE) places the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH), along with six others, in fifth position in the ranking of best Spanish universities. In the category of Innovation & Technological Development, the UMH is third, and in Teaching, the UMH is fourth. Furthermore, most undergraduate programs offered at the UMH are found among the top five positions in terms of this ranking’s criteria of Teaching, Research, and Innovation & Technological Development.

As for universities within the Valencian Community, the UMH is second, tied with the University of Valencia. Both of these received an index score of 1.2, only exceeded by the Universitat Politècnica de València.

This ranking also places most UMH undergraduate degree programs among the top five positions in terms of the aforementioned criteria. Occupational Therapy and Pharmacy come in first, while Business Statistics, Podiatry, and Psychology are second. UMH programs in third position include Physical Activity & Sports Sciences, Physiotherapy, Computer Engineering in Information Technologies, Medicine, and Fine Arts. Biotechnology, Audiovisual Communication, Journalism, and Agro-Food & Agro-Environmental Engineering are ranked fourth, with Environmental Science, Food Science & Technology, Telecommunications Technology Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering in fifth.

In terms of the 2018 U-Ranking indicators, the UMH is above average among Spanish universities in the areas of Research, and Innovation & Technological Development. Specifically, the UMH stands out in competitive public resources acquired, published scientific documents, doctoral theses defended, average impact factor, cites per document, income from licensing, income from continuing education, patents, and triadic patents.

The general results of the U-Ranking of Spanish Universities are presented in two distinct formats: first is the U-Ranking of Spanish Universities, which ranks the universities according to their performance after correcting for their relative sizes in order to make them comparable. Then, the U-Ranking Volume of Spanish Universities ranks the universities according to their total volume of results. This U-Ranking considers three important missions: teaching, research, and innovation & technological development, and it examined 13 private and 48 public Spanish universities.
