A pioneering project to create a white paper on innovative learning spaces
The Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH) has initiated a pioneering project among Spanish universities based on creating a white paper on innovative learning spaces. This initiative is being funded by the UMH Vice Rectorate for Infrastructure, and organized by the Vice Rectorate for Research and Innovation and Campus Habitat 5U. Its objective is to produce a complete specifications manual for the construction of the next university building, which is intended for the journalism and audiovisual communication programs.
The project consists of a series of workshops taking place in January and February on the methodology of design thinking (product design) and led by José Picó (@picoj) from Redex. The final workshop will be held next Tuesday, February 21, starting at 10 a.m. in the Torreblanca building on the Elche Campus. Its objective is to foster the generation of ideas and solutions to guarantee the optimum functional nature of learning spaces to be built through the incorporation of needs detected by faculty, students, and technicians. Furthermore, versatility characterizes these spaces in order to integrate new learning methodologies based on cooperative approaches and project development.
A multidisciplinary group of 30 people are participating in this initiative, and it includes managers (from various vice rectorates), faculty (from building, renewable energy, statistics, education, journalism, audiovisual communication, engineering, the environment, accessibility), technicians (from infrastructure, architecture, recruitment, mobility), and students. This initiative is one of the ongoing lines of research by the group of instructors at Educación Innovadora y TICs (http://eduinnoticsumh.es).
