An environmental photography contest, an escape room on the Sustainable Development Goals, a book exchange, and a drive to collect used bicycles, spare parts and materials thereof, are just some of the activities taking place during UMH Sustainable Week. This initiative, the brainchild of the Environmental and Sustainable Development Area at the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (UMH), and part of the Vice Rectorate for Inclusion, Sustainability and Athletics, is taking place May 9 – 15.

More specifically, this event begins on Monday, May 9, with an open house on athletic activities and the ANSE chat, Importance of Southeastern Wetlands and Fishing Species of Interest. Then, on Tuesday, May 10, at 11 a.m. in Classroom 0.2 of the Arenales Building on the Elche Campus, is the Climate Change Workshop presented by the Educational and Interactive Museum of Sciences of the Vega Baja del Segura of the Valencian Community (MUDIC) of the UMH.

The Research and SDG Workshop is being offered May 11. This activity will address soil biodiversity, vertebrate scavengers and decomposers, the development of aids for vision recovery, and the cultivation of seaweed, among others.

On Thursday, May 12, the Sustainable Fair is scheduled. More than 20 local companies and associations are taking part, and they will share their initiatives and show off their sustainable products. This activity will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the plaza in front of the Altabix Building on the Elche Campus. Those in attendance can visit stands, such as the Book Exchange, UMH Sustainable Store, the Laüd Recycled Stand, and more. Charitable tickets to eat paella at the university will be available for purchase. All proceeds will be donated to AMUS (Action for the Wild World) to assist in the sponsoring of a pair of red kite birds of prey at their Recovery Center.

May 13 is the date for a visit to the Urban Social Orchard of La Cuerna; and finally, on May 14, the Cycle Route to the Elche Water Reservoir will be run.
